How to Organise the UPPSC Syllabus
The UPPSC syllabus is extensive, so students should not approach it as one large list.
A practical structure is:
Prelims
β General Studies-I
β History
β Geography
β Polity
β Economy
β Environment
β Science
β Current Affairs
β Uttar Pradesh
β General Studies-II
β Mathematics
β English
β Hindi
β Aptitude
Mains
β General Hindi
β Essay
β GS-I: History, Culture, Society and Geography
β GS-II: Constitution, Polity, Governance and International Relations
β GS-III: Economy, Agriculture, Science, Environment and Security
β GS-IV: Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude
β GS-V: Uttar Pradesh History, Culture, Society, Polity and Governance
β GS-VI: Uttar Pradesh Economy, Geography, Agriculture and Development
How to Use the Syllabus for Preparation
The syllabus should be used as a study map, not simply read once.
For every topic, follow:
Syllabus β Study Material β Previous-Year Questions β Practice β Revision β Test
For example:
GS-VI β Geography of Uttar Pradesh β Rivers β Study Material β Previous Questions β MCQs β Map Practice β Revision
Similarly:
GS-IV β Emotional Intelligence β Concept β Examples β Case Study β Answer Writing β Revision
This approach converts the large UPPSC syllabus into smaller and manageable learning units.
Prelims and Mains Should Be Prepared Together
Many subjects overlap between the two stages.
For example:
Indian Polity
Prelims:
-
Constitutional provisions
-
Articles
-
Institutions
-
Factual knowledge
Mains:
-
Constitutional issues
-
Federalism
-
Governance
-
Institutional challenges
-
Contemporary examples
Environment
Prelims:
-
Species
-
Ecosystems
-
Protected areas
-
Environmental facts
Mains:
-
Climate change
-
Environmental governance
-
Conservation
-
Sustainable development
-
Policy challenges
Therefore, the preparation model should be:
Prelims knowledge + Mains understanding + Current affairs + Uttar Pradesh examples
Uttar Pradesh Should Be Studied Separately
A dedicated Uttar Pradesh preparation system should cover:
UP History
β Ancient
β Medieval
β Modern
β 1857
β Freedom Movement
UP Culture
β Art
β Architecture
β Literature
β Music
β Dance
β Festivals
β Fairs
β Traditions
UP Geography
β Rivers
β Climate
β Soils
β Agriculture
β Minerals
β Forests
β Industries
UP Economy
β Agriculture
β Industry
β Services
β Infrastructure
β Investment
β Government schemes
UP Polity and Governance
β State Government
β Legislature
β Judiciary
β Administration
β Local Government
β Governance
UP Current Affairs
β Government
β Economy
β Society
β Environment
β Development
This is especially useful because General Studies-V and General Studies-VI are strongly Uttar Pradesh-oriented.
Official UPPSC Sources
The UPPSC website should be treated as the primary authority for the latest examination notification, syllabus, eligibility requirements, examination rules, dates and any subsequent changes.
The official previous-question-paper archive provides PCS Preliminary and Main Examination papers, including the 2025 papers.
Official UPPSC Website: UPPSC Official Website
Official Previous Question Papers: UPPSC Previous Question Papers
Important: The latest UPPSC notification applicable to the candidate’s examination cycle should take precedence if any syllabus, examination-rule or eligibility detail changes.
