How to Prepare for Class 7 Social Science (NCERT + Extra Resources)
Social Science at Class 7 level includes History, Geography, Civics, and Economics. The NCERT books are the main resource because exam questions are directly based on them. But to strengthen preparation, some extra steps and resources can be used.
Step 1: Understand the Syllabus
Break the subject into four parts:
-
History (Our Pasts–II) – Ancient to Medieval India, dynasties, kingdoms, empires, culture.
-
Geography (Our Environment / Earth & Our Habitat) – Landforms, climate, natural resources, agriculture, human settlements.
-
Civics (Social & Political Life–II) – Government, democracy, institutions, rights, laws.
-
Economics (Our Economic Life) – Barter, money, markets, production, economy.
👉 First, make a chapter list for each section. Tick them as you finish.
Step 2: Read NCERT Books Thoroughly
-
Read each chapter line by line.
-
Mark difficult words and look at the glossary given in the book.
-
Pay attention to pictures, maps, and boxes – questions are often asked from them.
-
At the end of each chapter, solve NCERT questions in writing.
Step 3: Make Notes
-
Write chapter summaries in your own words (5–10 lines).
-
Divide notes into Definitions, Important Facts, and Main Concepts.
-
For History: Make a timeline of rulers, events, and contributions.
-
For Geography: Use maps, flowcharts, and diagrams.
-
For Civics: Write key terms (democracy, parliament, constitution).
-
For Economics: Note examples from daily life (markets, money, farming).
Step 4: Practice Questions
-
NCERT Questions – Must be completed first.
-
Extra Questions – Short answers, long answers, and HOTS (higher order thinking skills) questions.
-
Objective Questions – MCQs, Fill in the blanks, True/False, Match the following.
-
Case Studies/Activities – e.g., prepare a skit on barter, write a diary entry as a farmer, etc.
👉 Writing answers improves memory more than only reading.
Step 5: Revise Regularly
-
After finishing each chapter, revise once in the same week.
-
Use mind maps for quick revision.
-
Make a formula notebook (like a mini guide) for dates, rulers, definitions, and important terms.
-
Before exams, revise only notes and underlined parts of NCERT.
Step 6: Practice Maps
-
Practice locating states, rivers, mountains, important cities on maps.
-
For History, mark empires, trade routes, and cultural centres.
👉 At least 10 minutes daily practice makes map work easy.
Step 7: Use Extra Resources
-
School notes and teacher’s questions.
-

-
Write answers in points with headings.
-
Include diagrams/maps wherever possible.
-
Manage time: Short answers in 3–4 lines, long answers in 6–8 points.
